About

A diamond birthday is celebrated when the stars align and the last two digits of your birth year match your age. It’s a particularly lucky date that only comes around once in a lifetime, so it’s worth making the most of the momentous occasion.

A diamond birthday is celebrated when the stars align and the last two digits of your birth year match your age. It’s a particularly lucky date that only comes around once in a lifetime, so it’s worth making the most of the momentous occasion. Fete was approached to dream up a bespoke celebration for Kalpana Dhanti’s diamond birthday. One that would be as unique and intriguing as those specific dates aligning.
Dubai’s Taj Hotel was selected for its inspiring blend of sophisticated luxury, authentic Indian heritage and contemporary style. Its impressive Opera Ballroom would serve as the venue for the evening event: a 464 sq metre canvas in which Fête could work its magic. The pre-function foyer would be used to set the tone with a dedicated entrance, valet service and sophisticated décor that would prove to be an extension of the client’s requested palette: black, silver and an abundance of sparkles to play up the diamond birthday occasion.

Process

01

Requirements

The brief from the client was for the event to transform from an ambient sit-down dinner to a high-energy party. It was specified that throughout the evening, guests should feel encouraged to mix and mingle among the tables: a range of seating options were required for more intimate conversations and relaxed moments away from what would be exquisite and opulent table settings.
02

Concept

Fete took the requested black, silver and sparkles theme and elevated the concept with pristine white floral arrangements, and endless crystals. This would play up the sophistication of the Taj hotel, and deliver an elegant riff on the idea of ‘bling’.
03

Execution

On entering the chic pre-event foyer space, guests would be drawn to a customised neon sign glowing with the words ‘The party is here’. This was positioned by a mirrored welcome wall for guests to take a quick snap with a shimmering backdrop. A black runner led to the ballroom entrance, fringed with gleaming silver cubes, customised white anthurium florals and metallic globes.
